Access to High Speed Internet in Rural Areas Will Help Ontario Tourism

Your tourism destination is remote—that’s its appeal. But it’s not great for online marketing for rural tourism. Trying to attract visitors to your destination without high speed internet access (when your competition has it) puts you at a disadvantage.

That’s why the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) commitment to ensuring rural access to broadband internet as a basic service across the country will be a boost to rural Ontario tourism operators.
The CRTC goals is 100 percent of the Canadian population accessing high speed internet in the next 10 to 15 years and 90 percent by 2021. That opens up an audience of over 2 million. Be ready to take advantage of the ruling with a solid inbound marketing plan.

Three Reasons Canada-Wide High Speed Internet Will Boost Rural Tourism

  1. You, as an operator, will have the tools to market your region. You’ll be able to attract visitors to your Ontario tourism destination from your location. No longer will you be hampered by poor, slow service that makes creating and managing a campaign frustrating. You’ll be able to spend your time working on your services not waiting for your latest campaign to load.
  2. Your target audience will expand as they too have access to fast internet to access your campaigns. You can use a plethora of great tools available to enhance your social media and your website without being limited by concerns of slow speed users (some of whom are still shackled by the dreaded dial up). Use video, interactive tools, and great images to sell your destination.
  3. You can offer high speed on site. Let’s face it visitors want access to the internet whether they’re in the wilderness or not. Embrace it. Use tools like geocaching to combine outdoor activities and discovery of your location with technology.
